Are Christian Art Theater programs a sham?
I paid $150 for a 10 week Christian Art Theater program where they were supposed to teach my daughter to sing and dance during the 2 hour weekly sessions.
We had a big presentation last night to showcase all that they had learned during those 10 weeks. I love my daughter but I have to say that the show was pathetic. All it showcased is that I just wasted $150. My daughter was on stage for about two minutes as a Hawaiian girl doing a hula dance.
Anybody else think that these dance/singing programs are sometimes a sham and not worth the money?
Well, it had the word “Christian” in it. Wasn’t that warning enough?
Anytime something is marketed to a niche audience like that you have to question how much it’s being marked up, and exactly how valid it really is. Christians want to buy “christian” things, and that means an insulated sub-culture of people who are so desperate to affirm their faith that they will pay for substandard product – look at the christian music industry, the christian fictional literature industry, and of course the christian theatre/dance industry. =)
But whether or not this was a rip-off, don’t you think that you’re expectations are a little off? You can’t learn to sing *or* dance in 20 hours, certainly not both. Learning how to sing requires time and dedication and a good teacher – certainly more than 20 hours worth of instruction!
If you want her to learn, pay a real teacher, not some christian feel-good “theatre” program.
I hope you told her she did a good job, though. Children need reassurance from their parents. She won’t understand that you’re unhappy with her teachers, she’ll think you’re unhappy with *her*.
