Introduction:

Millions of people decide each day that they need or want a new piece of jewellery to add to their collection. Price Comparison, Handcrafted vs High-street:

Kirsten Hendrich set up her contemporary silver jewellery business after studying the jewellery and silversmith’s degree course at London Met. Kirsten has also attended many short courses helping her develop her craft into a successful business. The range of jewellery available from her online shop includes handcrafted silver necklaces, silver rings, silver earrings and also pendants and brooches. Prices start at as little as £8 for earrings, £50 for rings and £50 for necklaces. So, you can see that the prices do compare very well with high-street stores, especially when you consider you are buying something unique.

Craft Fairs:

Of course, there are many artists and craftsmen selling their own jewellery online so have a good look around and make sure the website you are looking at has some good images to give you an indication of the quality of the jewellery.  Another great place to look for something slightly different is your local craft fair. Most towns will have them every now and then, providing local crafts people the opportunity to showcase and sell their work. Obviously, this is a really good opportunity for someone looking for unique jewellery as nothing beats sampling the ‘feel’ of the jewellery before you decide to purchase.

Commissions:

For those of you looking for something 100% unique and tailored to suit your most specific jewellery tastes, why not consider having something commissioned. Most artists will often offer their customers the option to have something commissioned to a brief; however you will certainly pay a premium for this service. How much you will need to pay differs from case to case depending on how time consuming the project will be and also the materials that you wish to be used. Kirsten Hendrich offers her customers the option of commissioning a piece from scratch, or adding their own tweaks to a design that she is already selling. The latter option is less costly, but either way, if you go for a jewellery commission you really will end up with something truly special.
